Kevin Orchard, Venture Partner

Kevin Orchard has 30 years of international trade experience, including 12 years direct experience as a buyer, seller and investor in China and 2 years living in Shanghai.

As a venture partner at GenOrigin, Kevin focuses on the security, government, and transportation markets.

From November 2007 to April 2009 Kevin worked for QinetiQ plc, where he set and directed a strategy to take QinetiQ products and services into the supply chain security market.

Starting in 2002, Kevin led Intertek into the emerging global Supply Chain Security market. Intertek offered governments managed services that included cargo scanners and risk management systems. Contracts were won in Asia, South America, and Africa. During this time he developed strong ties with Chinese companies as both customer and service provision partner.

In 1997, Kevin joined DRS Data and Research Services plc. to develop their global election business. DRS provided election bodies with voter registration and ballot counting hardware, software and managed services. Major contracts were won in Africa and Asia, including one for the first elections in Hong Kong after the 1997 handover to China. In 2002, while Kevin was Head of the International Division, DRS won the “Queen’s Award for International Trade”. Kevin was responsible for establishing a joint venture in China to more efficiently manufacture hardware and to develop software.

Previously, Kevin spent 18 years as a member of HM Diplomatic Service from 1979 to 1997. He served the British Government in Islamabad (1982-1984), Dakar (1984-1987), London (1988 and 1993-1995), Ottawa (1989-1993), and Shanghai (1995-1997). He undertook a variety of political and commercial roles during his career. He was Commercial Consul in Shanghai where he assisted many British companies in their efforts to do business in China.

Kevin holds an MBA and speaks French.
